I'mma tell you what Banks told me: "cuz go ahead, switch the style up
Lloyd Banks, longtime friend of 50 cent and fellow G-Unit member, is presumed to have told 50 cent that it’s OK for 50 cent to adjust his style and approach to music (from how they approached mixtapes to how they would approach popular music through their record deal with Shady/Aftermath/Interscope), if it serves the purpose of improving upon their financial space.
Kanye would borrow this line on “Good Life,” but he cited 50, not Lloyd Banks, as the source of the knowledge. He should have said “50 told me Banks told him to go ahead switch your style up”, but sometimes attribution of lines to their primary sources in rap is somewhat lacking.
Although technically, Banks didn’t tell Kanye anything. Kanye heard 50 say it in this song, so he learned this nugget of wisdom from 50. This song says “I'mma tell you”, so 50 is very much addressing the listener, not just quoting it, like Kanye did.
