Plus I use nooses when I hang up all my clothes
Couldn't change up if I chose
A continuation from the previous bars about his “house of pain” that traces back to his enslaved ancestors. This history lives with him today as he claims he uses nooses to hang his clothes. Nooses represent a symbol of slavery since owners often lynched slaves as punishment.
This is not a choice for Lupe to be like this — to bear the weight of his people’s dark past, it’s part and parcel of who he is as a person.
The noose to “hang up all my clothes” might also be a reference to materialism, a common theme on the album, and the way in which American’s literally enslave themselves to their material possessions.
