Soft like Tiger Woods
Hip-hop wasn’t sure what to make of Tiger Woods in 1997. Mos Def bragged on “Body Rock” that he had “the competition shook like Tiger Woods about to tee up.” But others found Woods' modest, smiling demeanor evocative of the older, now discredited style of the “non-threatening” black man — thus the caustic shout-out to Tiger Woods (along with Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Taye Diggs) on Nas' mean-spirited Coon Picnic (2004). Common places himself firmly in the latter camp with this line. We can guess that Woods' revealed preference for white women has not further endeared him to the Chicago MC.
