The bow is the front of a ship, it is broken- he is ridding the storm and his ship is falling apart.
This is a metaphor for the self-loathing he is doing at a bar, his bow is his mouth- the sea is his rum.
He is loosing faith in his ability to conquer her, he is starting to become conscious of his place in her world- and all that he gave up to be there.
He is talking to himself- he abandoned his family, friends, beliefs, and his God.
