Welcome to the Heist
Welcome to the Heist

from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis (Ft. Macklemore) – Ten Thousand Hours Lyrics on Rap Genius

Meaning

This is the first track on the Heist album, and unlike many of its songs Ten Thousand Hours wasn’t released as a single or leaked before the album dropped. The name of the album, The Heist, is a metaphor for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' attempt to ‘steal’ airplay, attention and success from its traditional keepers in the music industry, the major record labels.

While “The Heist” kind of alludes to stealing airplay we shouldn’t ignore the previous lines. You can’t get the best moments of your career back from the grave, especially when the crowd won’t give you a second chance in the form of an encore. But Macklemore plans to steal the moment back.
