Portrait illuminated when the torch was well-lit
This is a multi-layered lyric. At first glance it seems that GZA is carrying on with his vivid depiction of a historical tale of some people lighting up a torch and seeing the portrait of him hustling.
The double meaning is in GZA’s 5% Nation terminology. GZA fans know that he talks a lot about how his lyrics paint pictures in the mind, and as a 5 percenter, GZA is one who is enlightened and therefore when he drops knowledge it illuminates the darkness that those who are mentally deaf, dumb, and blind are living in.
This lyric is also referring to GZA lighting up a blunt before he goes in with his rhyme which lights the place up because of how great it is, the torch being symbolic of the blunt.
