Jamaica left the Federation of the West Indies in 1962, attaining the so-called “full independence”. However, the strong economic growth in the following decade was accompanied by a growing sense of inequality. The poor did not benefit from the growth.In this song recorded in 1975, the 16-year-old Mundell called for freedom for all Africans. Ironically, he was murdered in 1983, and the nation was in worse economic conditions.
