Keisha’s sister is trying to convince herself of these words as she assures Kendrick. The more she repeats these words, she’s internalizing it and trying to make herself believe that she’ll “never fade away”, which is what we all strive for (to leave a mark).
Of course, she is a prostitute, so the toll her life is taking on her means she’ll, at least physically, fade away and faster than most. As these lines are spoken, the sound of her voice literally starts to fade.
The bittersweet irony is that because she’s inside of this song, no matter what, she’ll never fade away completely. Kendrick granted her wish just as he did Dave’s brother’s, by telling their story. They will now “Never fade away”
Sort of poetic justice in a way.
