Tonight I’m Getting Over You Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I wanna smash your fears
And get drunken off your tears

Don't you share your smile with anyone else but me
I wanna touch your heart
I wanna crush it in my hands

Make you plead and cry, as you give up all the lies

[Refrain]
We're not lovers, but more than friends
Put a flame to every single word you ever said
No more crying
To get me through
I'll keep dancing 'til the morning with somebody new
Tonight, I'm getting over you

[Chorus]
Tonight, I'm getting over you
Tonight, I'm getting over you
Tonight, I'm getting over you
Over you, over you

[Verse 2]
Stuck in a real bad dream
And man, it feels so new to me
Should be in your arms, but I'm beggin' at your feet
It's been a real hard night, and I just hold my pillow tight
It won't love me back, no, it's not you and I
[Refrain]
We're not lovers, but more than friends
Put a flame to every single word you ever said
No more crying (No more crying)
To get me through (Get me through)
I'll keep dancing 'til the morning with somebody new
Tonight, I'm getting over you

[Chorus]
Tonight, I'm getting over you
Tonight, I'm getting over you
Tonight, I'm getting over you
Over you, over you (Oh)
Tonight, I'm getting over you
Tonight, I'm getting over you (Tonight)
Tonight, I'm getting over you
Over you, over you

[Refrain]
We're not lovers, but more than friends
(Tonight, I'm getting over you, tonight, I'm getting over you)
Put a flame to every single word you ever said
(Tonight, I'm getting over you, tonight, I'm getting over you)
No more crying
To get me through
I'll keep dancing 'til the morning with somebody new
Tonight, I'm getting over you

As an artist, it’s fun to explore many sides and sort of go through my experience with love in a more personal way. I hope you haven’t experienced it, but I certainly have had that relationship that is on-again, off-again and good and bad. With this particular song, it was sort of that decision that even though the relationship is hot and cold, sometimes you’ve got to move on. I think it’s important to have a bit of a connection to a song that you sing, and there’s going to be some grittiness behind it, because otherwise it doesn’t come across as sincere. So I do think I tap into those memories in a certain way, but it doesn’t make me feel sad. It just makes me feel a little contemplative and in the moment.
