With little options or positive influence, they commit crime. He transitions to man being afforded the option of living a lie. This is like the argument: You can be Socrates dissatisfied or a pig satisfied. The pig is satisfied with hedonistic pleasures, being “of the world” desires like the next bar about “drinking”. Or you can be Socrates and be dissatisfied with your current knowledge/understanding is but also aware and not naive to your surroundings.
