Unspoiled by the foils of fame and desire
Foil can mean “to prevent the success of” and—in literature—the character opposing the protagonist) (as in Hamlet). Fame and desire have brought down many good men, Yoni wishes to remain unscathed and avoid being the representation of his own downfall.
It can also reference gold foil which falsely depicts something as being of great value when in reality it’s merely a thin coating over something common. Fame and desire seem illustrious but are mere coverups to the ordinary and valueless in life.
