The choir like my reefer and the preacher got my eyes low
Sister Mary Jane to make me sleep from singing high notes
These two lines play on the concepts of church and weed. He juxtaposes religion and weed, creating the image of him deeming weed similar to religion.
First he compares a loud choir with his weed. Potent weed is referred to as ‘loud’, therefore drawing the comparison between the choir and his reefer.
Then he mentions having ‘his eyes low’. Tying in with the aforementioned drug use, Flacko’s eyes are low because of smoking. This line, again, also has a religious theme. Creating the image of A$AP not being able to look the preacher in his eyes because of the sins he has committed and therefore having his eyes low. Sinners casting their eyes downwards is also a common theme in the Bible.
Mary in the last line is a reference to Saint Mary, the mother of Jesus, while Mary Jane is a commonly used term for marijuana.
The reefer makes him sleepy, causing him to lack attention in the real church and not being to focus on real religion. This part can also mean that church doesn’t interest him all that much, evoking sleep as well.
Finally, notice the contradiction between having his eyes low and singing high notes, both being the consequence of his drug intake.
