Georgetown was very symbolic and very connected. Not just to "Black D.C." but to "Black America". They were kind of "Black America's" basketball team for a lot, a lot of people.
Georgetown basketball in the 80s was noted for it’s strong African American players. Their team featured upstanding black atheletes with led by a well-respected black coach. In a city with a nickname like “Chocolate City,” the Hoyas became to embody the city as a whole.
