Rest in peace to Harold, I'm washing tons of rappers like Booker
Harold Washington was elected Chicago’s first (and only) Black Mayor in 1983. He died in 1987, shortly after winning reelection. Washington was notable for winning without the support of Chicago’s working-class, white ethnic “political machine,” which had elected Richard Daley for 21 straight years. Obama openly talked about replicating Washington’s coalition of the young, minorities, and wealthier white liberals during his own campaigns.
Booker Washington was a black activist in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, notorious for urging blacks to soft-pedal their claims to equality, and to build themselves up slowly through menial labor.
