Beat that pussy up like Emmett Till

from Future (Ft. Lil Wayne) – Karate Chop (Remix) Lyrics on Rap Genius

Meaning

For context: Emmett Till, a black 14-year-old boy, was murdered in 1955 after supposedly flirting with a white woman. The woman’s husband and half-brother took Emmett, beat him up, then shot him in the head

This lyric has landed Weezy in serious hot water with the Till family. Airickca Gordon-Taylor, a cousin of Till’s and the founding director of the Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation, said:

To compare his murder and how beaten and how bullied, beatened, and tortured he was to the anatomy of a woman was really very disrespectful. We found it dishonorable to his name and what his death has meant to us as a people and as a culture. It was offensive not only to us, but to our ancestors and to women and to themselves as young, black men. I just couldn’t understand how you could compare the gateway of life to the brutality and punishment of death. And I feel as though they have no pride and no dignity as black men

Epic Records has since announced that this lyric will be removed from the official remix of Karate Chop due to controversy and has issued a public apology.

On May 3, 2013 Mountain Dew dropped Lil Wayne as a spokesperson for the company for comparing the beating of Emmett Till to rough sex.
