The “earthquake” referenced in this song is a metaphor for a significant, life-changing event. As in “I’ll be okay,” (Aesop Rock and Slug), the “storm” is a personal event representing something greater. They use earthquake as their metaphor because, much like the death of a loved one, it can affect anyone and everyone. As with the rest of Hokey Fright, this song is about coming to terms with the death of a close friend.
