Cruising in a slow-ass Civic, I got gas, hit it
Here, Joey BADA$$ reminisces on “hot boxing” in his past in a subpar vehicle.
This car actually doesn’t look that slow…(notice its a 1999 Civic—in commemoration of [Joey Bada$$’s 1999] mixtape).
Here we see a little bit of wordplay, when he spits “I got gas, hit it” because though his car won’t necessarily be going too fast, his rise to stardom and the hype propelling him (his “gas”) make him one of the fastest growing young artists today.
Furthermore, since the song is called [Hotbox] he is moving slow because he is probably as high as his stardom is.
