My by-any-means on
Kanye is referencing what is probably Malcolm X’s most famous quote, to highlight the theme of black militancy and racial anger he is bringing with this song and the album in general.
We declare our right on this earth to be a man, to be a human being, to be respected as a human being, to be given the rights of a human being in this society, on this earth, in this day, which we intend to bring into existence by any means necessary.
— Malcolm X, 1965 (the last year of his life)
Also a reference to Kanye’s big brother, Jay-Z:
It’s also notable that Ye debuted this song the day before Malcolm X’s birthday (May 19th)
Also, in the hood when people say “get mine by any means necessary” they are stating that they are even willing to resort to crime, selling drugs, etc to get theirs.
