The black Maybach,
The Black Maybach used in the Otis Video, auctioned off for $60K which went towards charity ‘Save The Children’.
In the past Maybach produced boat engines, this links back to the second part of the line Back inside the boat.
Maybach had some ties with slavery as well, they used to bring slaves across the countries hiding them inside the boats with the loose pack procedure. That’s why this water tells his story.
“Black May” refers to a period (May 1943) in the Battle of the Atlantic campaign during World War II, when the German U-boat arm (U-Bootwaffe) suffered high casualties with fewer Allied ships sunk; it is considered a turning point in the Battle of the Atlantic.
Prior to “Black May” the Allies were suffering huge losses. Their backs' were “against the ropes” so to speak. In this metaphor, Jay Z is Black May. He’s back (back in the boat) to turn the tide in his favor, thus sticking to the Oceans theme to match the song title.
