R.I.P. to Gianni
“Gianni” refers to the late Gianni Versace, the founder of the widely popular fashion house, Versace. On July 15, 1997, Versace was shot dead outside of his Miami home. While the motive for the murder is inconclusive, since the killer, Andrew Cunanan committed suicide with the same gun eight days later, some believe that it was a hit by the Calabrian Mafia.
While not as catchy as Drake and Migos' hit song, it’s clear that the Italian fashion label is still held in high regard by Jay-Z. He even attended a few of the design house’s fashion shows, and has rubbed elbows with head of house Donatella Versace, the sister of late founder Gianni Versace. The Basquiat collab he mentions? Jay copped a painting from Gianni Versace’s personal art collection.
