Take me on your genocide tour
Take me on a truck to Darfur
Take me where you would go
From the magazine SPIN (Aug 2007, pg.46). It reads:
SPIN: The Kala song “Jimmy” is a good old-fashioned love story—but the courtship is in Darfur, Rwanda, adn the Congo. Did you fall in love with a UN relief worker or something?
MIA: Ah, kinda! Actually, he was a journalist. I was in Liberia and he [Ben Anderson] was in Rwanda, and we were gonna meet up. He was like, On our first date, do you wanna go on a genocide tour? I just thought, This shit doesn’t escape me! This is me! I wrote the song instead of actually going on the genocide tour.
