This draws on a couple of biblical ideas
“He remembered that they were but flesh, a passing breeze that does not return.”
The idea that our physical bodies will die.
Also from Genesis 2:7
“Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
The idea that the “breath of life” which resides in our physical bodies, i.e. the “soul”, since from God, does not perish with our body
