I pray these wings strong enough to carry me on
from The Roots – Walk Alone Lyrics on Rap Genius
Meaning
Here Black is referencing the Greek myth of Icarus, who made wings out of feathers held together with wax so that he could escape from prison. However, Icarus flew too close to the sun, so the wax of his wings melted and they collapsed. Black is praying that the wings that he’s created are strong enough to carry him.
