I'm my mama boyfriend, I'm her little husband

from Kanye West – Mama's Boyfriend Lyrics on Rap Genius

Meaning

Freud conceptualized the Oedipus complex as an innate son to father competition for possession of his mother and the cause of much unconscious guilt in the son. The name derives from the tale of a Greek mythological character who unknowingly killed his father and married his mother.

Unlike Hamlet or anything your high school English teacher stretched to interpret as Oedipal, Kanye makes his interest in his mother abundantly clear.

His lack of subtly in trying to elevate his music from pop to high art often irks his critics. For example, his Runaway “movie” contained myriad references to visual artists largely unfamiliar to his audience. In his defense, even when his is blatantly unsubtle (as in the Oedipal themes of this song) his references are often missed or as he often complains “misunderstood.”
