Again there is the obvious literal meaning, but Kayne could also be using school as a metaphor for learning to grow up (as he did in his first three albums). Kanye often seems Lost in the World as he confronts the harsh reality of what it means to be an adult. In various iterations of his Bildungsroman, or coming of age narrative, his approaches have spanned from escapist self-aggrandizement to passive nihilism. The juxtaposition of the two are evident on Power, which at first presents Kanye at his cockiest but ends with:

“Now this will be a beautiful death
I’m jumping out the window, I’m letting everything go”
