My big homie Kurupt

from Big Sean (Ft. Jay Electronica & Kendrick Lamar) – Control Lyrics on Rap Genius

Meaning

Kendrick gives a shout out to Kurupt, a fellow West Coast native and former member of the late gangsta rap powerhouse Death Row Records.

Before the fame, Kendrick Lamar said he could freestyle better than Kurupt on his old song “Young & Black.”

Kurupt (and arguably, E40) have always carried the torch for West Coast lyricists (Kurupt was born in Philly but reps the West Coast regardless). On “New York, New York,” Kurupt proclaimed himself “the deadliest lyricist.” Kendrick is trying (and succeeding!) in reclaiming lyricism for the West Coast, much like the big homie Kurupt.

Interestingly enough, Kurupt also at one point did what Kendrick did with calling out other rappers.
