And my punch bowl's like an ocean
And I lay it on by the ladle
But it's so strong, when I pull it out, I'm only hangin' on to a handle
Lu uses a punch bowl as a metaphor for the punchlines he writes.
Lupe’s basically saying his lyrics are stronger than anyone else’s, comparing them to the size of an ocean. The oceans contain 97% of the world’s water. That’s 332,519,000 cubic miles. That’s a lot of swimming pools.
He can serve them up, like serving punch from a bowl with a ladle.
Except his rhymes are so acid, that when he pulls the ladle out of the bowl all that’s left is the handle. A handle is also a reference to 1.75 litres of of liquor.
