What happened to the game?
It may be hard to believe, but its already been 7 years since Lu’s debut. Rap has evolved in so many ways with new flows, new records, and new rappers since then. He’s seen the change and he clearly isn’t happy with it based off this song.
Lupe uses autotune to modify his voice, as if to say the game is not real anymore and possibly criticizing the new generation of rappers. In the following lines, Lu mentions Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz — artists who frequently use Autotune on their tracks.
The melody he uses for this part is suspiciously similar to some of the melodies Kendrick Lamar used on “Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City,” Specifically, “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe.” compare the two and judge for yourself.
