Sweet Serenade Lyrics

[Chorus: Chris Brown]
Come on, let's toast the champagne, this one's for the life
Did everything you could just to be here for the night
Man, it feels good, everything is right

Energy is strong enough to brighten city lights
My whole team winnin', no vision on quittin'
I'd rather say I did than let them busters say I didn't
Le-le-let them talk about it, mane, I'm already livin'
I risked my life to try every day to go and get it, get it, get it

[Verse 1: Pusha T]
Came from the bottom, no one said it would be fair
Now I'm on this money, loungin' like it's a beach chair
Papa don't preach, a-all we do is just reach here
Raised 'round killers, we just happy to be here
Spot 'em, got 'em, let your soul pay your dues
While my hoes doin' magic, voodoo Moulin Rouge
That's a tactic that they use, fuck 'em high, then suck 'em dry

Before you know it, her Q7 is buzzin' by
The queen pin to the kingpin, redeems him
The boat comes, the dope drums, my team wins

[Refrain: Pusha T]
Yuugh, this the life that we made
Gunshots in the dark like a sweet serenade

What did Pusha T say about "Sweet Serenade"?
Genius Answer

Pusha T:

I heard that [beat] and immediately was like, ‘That’s a single.' Swizz had an artist that referenced it. So of course Steven Victor is like, 'We got to get Chris Brown.' I was like, 'Chris, Virginia–Wow.' I’m anti people getting what they expect [from music]. I felt like Chris wasn’t full Chris on this. I felt like everyone was in their alter ego state. Chris was reaching to be more ghostly… I felt like the record is haunting. Even me evoking that in my bars with 'Voodoo…' If I have to do singles, this is what I want to do.

Urban Legends interview, October 2018:

What have the artists said about the song?
Genius Answer

Pusha T:

“Sweet Serenade,” it doesn’t sound really sweet. It’s pretty dark so to capture that we came and shot on the beach at night time, bonfire.

It’s basically celebrating the fact that we’ve made it this far. We’ve been through so much, me and my friends. We’ve been around some of the worst things, the worst environments, we’ve lived through some really harsh times and we’re still here and we’re celebrating that.

What did Pusha say on the collaboration?
Genius Answer

Pusha T:

I like Chris, Chris has an edge to him that’s very real; he’s a real person, he goes through real situations. Me and Chris are just two passionate artists about our craft, and we actually give a damn.
