Genius Annotation

Abel released a snippet from his acclaimed debut album Kiss Land on the 30th of August via YouTube with a very slurred video of him singing in the studio. It was also revealed the song features a sample from The Police’s “Bring On the Night.”

The name of the snippet is “Roman Polanski”. This isn’t the first time he used a filmmaker’s name in this way, however. He released a snippet of the song “Kiss Land” under the name “John Carpenter”. Both Roman Polanski and John Carpenter are movie directors, a connection that made more sense following Abel’s Complex interview. The entire album was inspired by filmmakers like John Carpenter who are great at making horror movies; the elements of horror from these films is what Abel desired to give Kiss Land.
