Cake, cake-cake, cake-cake, cake
500 million, I got a pound cake
Finally, Jay starts a trend here of referring to actual types of cakes in this verse with this line about pound cakes, which is a double entendre referencing Jay’s past dealing drugs (pound = weight). In New York City, 500 dollars is a pound. Throwin' dice, “5” is a pound cake. Jay keeps the street slang but takes it up to the level he’s at.
Let’s take the cake is money analogy a little further: Jay would know, from his time on the corner, that a pound is 454 grams. Thus if cake is a million, Jay has pound cake (and then some) with his $500 million.
The repetition of the word “cake” resembles the racist white power organization the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). Jay Z is showing how much power he has now due to his “pound cake.” With his success he is once again proving how anything is possible no matter who you are or where you are from.
