Now the thrill is gone,
“A high only lasts if you keep the drugs flowing.”
Overall, Gambino has portrayed himself as a sad and lonely person, while still having his moments of happiness and excitement. However, this feeling only lasts until the party is over (or the song referenced a couple of lines ago).
Also, “The Thrill is Gone” is also a reference to the track by BB King.
This line has a connection with “Got no patience”, and the rest of the next two lines. He uses pretty simple wordplay in these lines (patience/patients — lying/lion), to strengthen the feeling of the “thrill” that´s gone. Everything was good a week ago, but now that the thrill is gone, he is sad, and doesn´t have the mood or “patience” to write complex wordplays.
