In chess, the pawn is the most numerous and least powerful piece on the board. Usually they can only advance one square at a time, and only in one direction. Pawn pieces are often the first to be captured.
While weak, pawns should not be underrated or ignored. If a pawn reaches the opposite side of the board, it is “promoted” to any piece of the player’s choice. An underdog can become the hero.
