I’m not in the winters of my life or the beginning stage, I am the dragon
He’s using winter as a metaphor for death (cold, the final season in the cycle) or near the ending of his career, and ‘beginner stage’ means that he’s not a newcomer to the rap game either.
- The dragon could represent fire (I’m on fire), the opposite of the aforementioned winter.
- It symbolizes power. Also, dragon does not become weaker by getting old, but becomes more powerful, as it is believed.
It could also be a reference to the biblical dragon representing Satan in the Bible’s Book of Revelation. Also, the dragon in Chinese folk lore was seen as a symbol of the emperor.
This isn’t Nas' first time referencing a biblical monster; check out Eye for An Eye where Nas references the Holy Beast.
