Kunta Kinte was the central character in the novel and TV mini-series Roots. He is a slave on a Virginia plantation. His new owner tells him his name is now Toby. He refuses to answer to the name, as he is being beat with a whip he continues to say his name is Kunta Kinte. So Cube is saying Ren is virtually a slave to Jerry Heller and Easy E
