Genius Annotation

This is Skylar Grey’s second single, that was supposed to be on the album Don’t Look Down which was scheduled to release in 2011 under the name Invinsible. The song was first officially released on August 9, 2011 on iTunes and made it into the US Dance/Club Play Songs Billboard Charts peaking 10th position.

The song Invisible is about Skylar who feels lost and doesn’t know who she actually is. So she’s trying everything she can think of to change herself but really makes it all worse.

Skylar on her writing process for Invisible:

Before I started writing this album, I felt like I had lost control of my life and didn’t know who I was anymore. I needed to ground myself so I decided to spend some time in solitude, and in the process discovered my inner super hero. The album tells that story starting with ‘Invisible’, which is how I used to feel.

Genius Answer

Skylar told Billboard about this track.

It’s the very beginning of the story that I’m telling on this album, so chronologically, it makes sense to release that part of my story first. I was depressed and broke and had nobody around and was feeling invisible to the world. That’s what that song’s about, that very first step… and so, within the album, you go on that journey of how I became invincible, and i think it’s gonna be a story that a lot of people can relate to.
