The judges give champion Skeleton Groove 4 stars, a perfect score
The challenger, Girls' TYME, receives 3 stars
Skeleton Groove, champions once again
Congratulations, we'll see you next week
Beyoncé’s girls band “Girl’s Tyme” was once part of a talent show when they were just kids. They lost to a band named “Skeleton Crew”.
Talking about the genesis of the album, Beyoncé describes her decision to include the soundbite from Girl’s Tyme’s Star Search performance:
In my mind, we would perform on Star Search, we would win, we would get a record deal, and that was my dream at the time. There’s no way in the world I would have ever imagined losing as a possibility. … I was only nine years old, and at the time you don’t realise that you can actually work super hard, and give everything that you have, and lose. It was the best message for me. … The reality is, sometimes you lose. And you’re never too good to lose, you’re never too big to lose, you’re never too smart to lose, it happens. And you have to embrace those things.
Surely it’s not lost on anyone that the band is a bunch of white men who ultimately amounted to nothing. But when presented in a generic format like a talent show, the judges chose them over girls who would become one of the most successful female entertainers/groups of all time. Just goes to show…
Skeleton Crew have confirmed that they are planning a comeback for 2014 and are hopeful Bey might include them in a live performance of “***Flawless”.
