3 Ways of Looking At Roscoes Wetsuit Lyrics
Mac Miller's "Space Migration" tour migrated to the Palladium in Los Angeles with opening acts Vince Stapes, Chance The Rapper, and Action Bronson. It was a Rap Genius outing. Not only were four RG verified artists on the bill, but Mac Miller had just recorded a verified annotation while taking a shit--the first of its kind. He'd become a meme in our circles.
We arrived to the Palladium six deep. The house lights were on and Vince just finished his set. Tomi Fischer (RG handle: TomiFischer) maneuvered his way to the front row; both the biggest Mac fan in our crew and incredibly unfazed by large crowds. Dan (RG handle: Fobolous), Gavin (RG handle: Gavin Matthews), Shawn (handle: SameOldShawn), Spinelli (Spinelli), and I huddled together and nursed beers. Because I am a moderate fan of Mac Miller and very much fazed by large crowds, I tell Dan, "Everyone here looks like Mac Miller. The girls, too." Chance takes the stage and tears it down. A group of girls next to us, who have not listened to Acid Rap look somewhat annoyed and confused during his performance, but the final song of his set changes their mood. It's "Favorite Song" and after the chorus hits, Childish Gambino emerges from backstage and *everyone* in The Palladium loses it. The house lights come on and Dan makes a beer run, but after jumping up and down for ten minutes, I'm good on stimulants.
Action Bronson performed *Saab Stories* which I'd only listened to once. Mac Miller settled in, playing guitar and rapping. We were hungry, so we bounced early and walked to Roscoes Chicken and Waffles. Toward the end of our meal, Action Bronson walked into Roscoes. We settled our tab and walked over to Bronson's table. Spinelli talked with him about the Yankees and his "Randy Velarde" shout out on "Nana." I drove us home and at the living room table, I tweeted "Shouts to @ActionBronson for talking Yankees with us at Roscoes Chicken and Waffles." It got six RTs and six favorites. One of our followers replied, "Lol random." It was not a meme.
Two days before he performed at "Space Migration," Childish Gambino tweeted an Instagram video with the caption "roscoes wetsuit." It didn't strike me at first, but when I watched the video after eating at Roscoes, I noticed that Gambino, Chance The Rapper, and Fam recorded it at Roscoes Chicken and Waffles. The first two "roscoes wetsuit," were RT'd roughly one hundred times each. "Clapping for the Wrong Reasons" dropped shortly after. "roscoes wetsuit" was not a meme--yet. At the end of August, Donald RT'd "roscoes wetsuit" five times in one day. The RTs grew in number and the tweets grew in creativity. It became a meme.
