I'm out at left field, I'm speaking mentally
But that's a better place than where the benches be
Some clever wordplay from Lupe, and we expect no less. To be “out in left field” is to be kinda crazy, and Lupe says he’s just fine with that, as long as he’s not sitting on the “benches” (no thought at all)
Lupe seems to be channeling Descartes: “I think, therefore I am not a benchwarmer”
“Benches” also sounds like “bitches,” probably referring to people with no lyrical substance (since Lupe doesn’t refer to women as bitches)
“Benches/bitches” is bleeped out in the video.
