They Reminisce Over You (Bonus 1) Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Now I reminisce for a spell, or shall I say think back
17 years ago, a baby born ready to attack
The kid grew up fast, only because he had to
Cause momma wasn’t there, and he didn’t felt a dad too
But still he grew, his older sis running cause she felt dissed
Parents ready for war and our lil man was in the midst
But he kept his eyes closed, the accusations were dismissed
Of the bottle, he knew he had to remodel cause he just got pissed
Of how it happened, but daddy tried to take the damage
So that’s positive, respect him for his actions
But then the anchor left, so the boat wasn’t stuck and could go faster
The waves kept him on pace, keeping himself on the right road was the answer
So he did that, our lil boy grew and grew
And got through, saw problems but this fool knew
That one day he’d be free, of the rotten apple on the family tree
Momma no longer in sight, she was the tunnel without any light
And he looks back driven, as he thinks of what he’s been through, he’s risen
Sunshine scare clouds, when they reminisce over you, listen

(I reminisce, I reminisce) x3
I reminisce, I reminisce
Uh! (I reminisce, I reminisce)
Yeah (I reminisce, I reminisce)
(I reminisce, I reminisce)
(I reminisce, I reminisce)
[Verse 2]
And now I reminisce on the old me, I was sipping coldly
But alcohol doesn’t unfold me, so I took back control you see
I was just a kid, involved in all these problems left unsolved
Even if I was left with my own soul, I was too young to know
That there’s power you can only hold, after experiencing what I just told
You need to grow up, learn from past memories
As I look back at who I neglected, those were the ones blessing me
Couldn’t see it, it’s like I was clouded for centuries
Did some wrong stuff, didn’t matter back then to me
But now I’ve changed, the problems solved, so I’m no longer estranged
For being humane, I became a menace, acted insane
Insecurity fueled by the shame, but hell now it’s all okay
Nobody to carry the blame but me, but I’m no longer the same
The looks on the outside are different, the thoughts no longer ignorant
Some soul searching got my coal burning
Fueling me with the fruits of my goal that I’m earning
Cause I’ve paid my dues, anger was there
But I’ve killed it with the grenade I threw
I’ve traded my blues and created something new
Now as I look back on who I was, I’m loving my new point of view
But I embrace memories, when I reminisce over you

(I reminisce, I reminisce) x3
I reminisce, I reminisce
Uh! (I reminisce, I reminisce)
Yeah (I reminisce, I reminisce)
(I reminisce, I reminisce)
(I reminisce, I reminisce)
[Verse 3]
When I reminisce about earlier times
I always think of the subject of earlier rhymes
A little lady, been friends for like a year or five
Always took the wheel when I felt I couldn’t drive
But she left the car now when we’re live
But that’s her, closed her walls
Opposed my calls, and eventually composed my fall
But that’s not what I’m reminiscing
I’m thinking about older times, before this girl and I were kissing
A little blonde kid smiling and feeling good
Even when things at home aren’t the way they should
But there’s so much things that she would
Do in the future, so much plans
A cake book, a Barbie with her own glance
But her parents fucked up, took away her chance
She got sick too, can’t even go to the dance
Lost a lot of people she trusted
She felt disgusted, but she just adjusted
To the sick world around, and I reminisce on what I found
Digging in my memory, the little lady’s smile
As I reminisce over you for a while

(I reminisce, I reminisce) x3
I reminisce, I reminisce
Uh! (I reminisce, I reminisce)
Yeah (I reminisce, I reminisce)
(I reminisce, I reminisce)
(I reminisce, I reminisce)

Genius Annotation

The first song I wrote for Unfold The Soul. Since I felt it was pretty good and I was very into the Jazz-rap thing, I thought: why not fill an album with this? I just had to add this to the bonus-tracks to showcase my journey from first song to last.

It’s my own version of the legendary duo Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth’s T.R.O.Y.
