So I'm smoking my kush reading Corinthians
Smoking my kush reading Corinthians
Smoking weed and reflecting on lessons from the bible. Or perhaps Corinthians is just a metaphor for life in general
This line emphasizes juxtaposition, the main lyrical device that Lamar uses to illustrate the main theme of the song — the tension between human and godly — and not just a human at that, but a human arguably from the most morally rudimentary of upbringings. Despite this, somehow Lamar is searching for more and yearns to be righteous despite his mistakes, but is in the middle of that journey — there are holdovers from his past. He might be reading Corinthians, but he’s still smoking that kush while doing it. What gives this line (and ultimately, this song) its poignancy and relevancy is its authenticity.
Or maybe he’s reading the bible to illuminate his wrongs. The repeated use of the line and him smoking weed may be to illustrate that the bible isn’t able to change his bad habits.
