Call me Richie Valens
Me no speakie spanish
Ritchie Valens, an early Mexican-American rock ‘n roll artist, e.g. La Bamba, died in the plane The Day The Music Died.
In Shorty Said (off of the Shut Up, Dude mixtape) Kool A.D. says a white girl compares him to “that guy who did the song called La Bamba” and yet professes not to know said guy’s name. Guess he does.
Ritchie Valens didn’t speak Spanish very well. For instance, he learned the lyrics to La Bamba phonetically. His name is also Anglicized (shortened from Valenzuela). So the reference could refer to whitewashing.
