2Pac Makaveli

from 2Pac (Ft. Val Young) – To Live & Die in L.A. Lyrics on Rap Genius

Meaning

2Pac is also known as “Makaveli the Don” in his Outlawz crew. Outlawz are the rappers who corrupted 2Pac after his stint in prison, turning him from a political activist to a thug. All Outlawz are named after historical personages (inc. Idi Amin, Khomeini, Mussolini, and even lil' pint-sized Napoleon)

“Makaveli” of course is a corrupted spelling of Renaissance philosopher Niccolò Machiavelli, famous for his mercenary counsels to the Papacy and the Borgia family, immortalized in The Prince

Machiavelli famously faked his own death; 2Pac/Makevelli is, in fact — sadly — actually dead, yet he mysteriously comes out with a new record every other year
