Genius Annotation

“Ridin' For Outro” is the closing track to Method Man’s third studio album, Tical 0: The Prequel. It was produced by Yogi and co-produced by Rich Mae.

The song is unique because it doesn’t feature any Meth vocals at all, and is solely performed by the dope Def Poet Black Ice. He tells the story of three ghetto teens who go out on a drive by. The song is a commentary about black-on-black violence and focuses on the ideology of these kids, who go out on a drive and will “kill and main another cat like there’s no shame in that.” They do it for the purpose of gaining street cred and defending their gang territory. He finishes the track by asking these “thieves of life” why are they hiding if there’s honor or street cred in what they do. The closing line sums it up nicely: “Recognize your deed to trife and decide what the fuck you ridin for.”
