Picture if you will that the throne's burning
Rome's burning and I’m sitting in the corner all alone burning

from Jay Z (Ft. Kanye West & Mr. Hudson) – Why I Love You Lyrics on Rap Genius

Meaning

“The throne is burning”: a metaphor of the demise of Roc-a-Fella records. He compares Roc-a-Fella to Rome, as both no longer exist as the empires they were before

The infamous ‘split’ occurred when it was revealed that Carter, Dash and Burke had sold their 50% interest in Roc-A-Fella to Def Jam, making the label full owners. As President, Carter retained control of the Roc and his masters, ousting his two former partners (SOHH)

There is also some very powerful imagery relating external conflict, i.e. the throne burning and Rome burning, to internal conflict, furthering the theme that seemingly opposite concepts blur together upon serious reflection
