We Rat Pack niggas, let Sam tap dance on you
Then, I Sinatra shot ya God damn you
The Rat Pack was a loose band of actors and singers who made a legend performing in Las Vegas in the 50s and 60s, particularly at the aforementioned Sands. The core group was made up of Peter Lawford; Joey Bishop; Dean Martin; Sammy Davis, Jr.; and Frank Sinatra. This lineup starred in the original Ocean’s Eleven. Davis, “Sam” in this line, was a skilled tap dancer. Jay would later reference Sinatra in D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune): “This is Sinatra at the opera, bring a blonde / preferably with a fat ass who can sing a song”
Of course this connects to the previous sequence of lines as well — Jay has just told you that he is going to build his casino empire over your dead body. Many in the Rat Pack not only favored Vegas for partying, but were rumored to have mob ties.
Finally, “Sam” is not just Sammy Davis Jr. — it’s also Jay’s own bodyguard, Samson, who will presumably be tap dancing on your grave.
Jay is operating at a very high level here.
