Victim of Münchausen’s Syndrome
My whole life I was made to believe I was sick when I wasn't
Eminem believes that his mother suffered from Munchausen’s syndrome by proxy, a mental disorder where a caregiver, usually a mother, harms their child or describes non-existent symptoms in order to get sympathy and attention.
This is also a play on the previous line. “Munchausen’s syndrome” can also be heard as “much houses syndrome”. Em moved around a lot during his childhood, residing in many different places as his mom acquired new jobs to make ends meet. As a result, Em rarely stayed in one spot for very long and struggled to make friends at each new school he attended, often being the target of bullies. He was a victim of much houses syndrome; all of this moving took a serious toll on his childhood and mental state.
