Cause it's all about money, ain't a damn thing funny
You got to have a con in this land of milk and honey
Surviving is all that matters, and you need cash to live
“land of milk and honey” is also a Biblical reference: Exodus 33.3-6
It is used ironically though, as the artist is saying that rather than milk and honey being naturally available, one has to work hard for it and even may have to drop out of school to pursue it.
This also has similarity to the song CREAM by Wu Tang Clan
Alternately, he’s making the argument that you need to cheat your way into the “land of milk and honey” (which is used in the Bible as a shorthand for “land of prosperity”), where one would have no problem staying on top of their finances, but that those who have achieved that status have more often than not steeped themselves in corruption.
This holds a particularly poignant meaning in today’s society, where this is still a highly debated issue.
