Aesop wants to take that candy-coated image down even further to hell.

In the classic poem, there are nine rings of hell, each for different sins. These different levels all provide punishments that are instances of poetic justice.
The rings, in order are Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Anger, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, and Treachery.
