Put my soul on the track like shoes did
Clever wordplay. The bottom of a shoe is called the sole and the bottom of shoes would be put on a track when running. CG is talking about putting his soul on the musical track though, meaning his lyrics have heart and mean something to him.
Trivia! Heinrich Schütz (hint: sounds like “shoes”), another German composer of the 1600s (like Ludwig van Beethoven directly above), also put his soul onto the “tracks” he composed.
